Annual Events

The Shroton Village Show

The Shroton Village Show is one of the highlights of the village calendar. It’s a joyful afternoon when green-thumbed growers, crafty creators, and junior geniuses come together to show off their talents and have a thoroughly good time.

Usually held in September (though it sometimes pops up in August just to keep us on our toes), the Hall is transformed into a buzzing hub of colourful displays: tomatoes lined up with military precision, show-stopping bakes daring Paul Hollywood to appear, flower arrangements fit for Chelsea, and enough jam jars to stock a small empire.

There are classes for every age and ability from the best single rose and the longest runner bean to paintings, poems, photographs and models made from fruit and veg (cocktail sticks allowed). Children rise to the challenge with garden plates, painted jars, and decorated paper plates, and the judges never fail to be impressed.

With tea and cake flowing freely and neighbours comparing carrots and corsages, it’s a day that captures everything wonderful about life in Shroton.

So, whether you’re entering a lovingly grown leek, a hand-stitched quilt, or a cheeky snapshot of your cat in a bonnet, the Village Show welcomes you.

Mark your calendar and get plotting, planting, baking, crafting, and snipping…the next show is just around the corner!

Shroton Village Fete

The Shroton Village Fete is one of the highlights of the local calendar that brings the whole village together for an afternoon of music, games, laughter, and a healthy dose of friendly competition.

Held on The Glebe and in and around the Village Hall, the fete is packed with everything you’d hope for: sizzling BBQs, raffles brimming with brilliant prizes, tombolas, craft stalls, book sales, local produce, and more homemade cake than strictly necessary (though no one’s complaining). There’s live music, a family dog show, line dancing displays, and even the occasional surprise guest appearance.

One of the newer and much-loved additions is the Pantomime Dame competition, where brave villagers don frocks, wigs, and their finest sass in a bid to be crowned Miss Shroton. It’s become a fast favourite with the crowd.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Shroton without the samba band, Fowl Play, marching through with irresistible rhythm, or the ever-popular tug-of-war.

The fete is a true community effort, with villagers pitching in to set up tents, bake treats, run stalls, and tidy up afterwards (usually still smiling). All funds raised go toward the upkeep and improvement of the Village Hall and other local causes, proving that having fun and doing good go hand in hand.

Whether you’re a long-time resident or a curious visitor, the Shroton Village Fete is a chance to soak up the best of what this brilliant village has to offer: warmth, creativity, generosity, and a whole lot of heart.
